Is signal intensity of late gadolinium enhancement a substitute for extracellular volume mapping in acute myocardial infarction?

چکیده
Background Extracellular volume (ECV) calculated from T1 maps can quantitatively characterize myocardial tissue, including the severity of tissue damage in myocardial infarction (MI) (1). An alternative approach for measuring the density of MI may be to calculate the relative signal intensity of LGE images.) A direct comparison of signal intensity of LGE and ECV in MI has not been carried out. We aimed to compare these two parameters in patients presenting with acute myocardial infarction.

Ability of extracellular volume imaging to serially measure infarct size compared to LGE within six months after acute myocardial infarction
Background T1 mapping and extracellular volume (ECV) imaging are promising tools to quantify increased extracellular distribution volume of contrast media after myocardial damage. We evaluated the ability of ECV imaging to measure infarct size compared to late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Additionally, the amount of cellular damage was serially measured ...
متن کاملRelationship between Late Gadolinium Enhancement Extent in Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Severity of Coronary Artery Disease in Old Myocardial Infarction
Purpose: To assess the relationship between the severity of coronary arteries involvement and the extent and pattern of myocardial scars in Cardiac Magnetic Resonance of patients with history of remote myocardial infarction. Materials and Methods: The Cardiac Magnetic Resonance images of sixty patients with history of remote ST segment or non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction were ...
متن کاملManganese kinetics demonstrated a double contrast in acute but not in chronic infarction in a mouse model of myocardial ischemia reperfusion
In this study we investigated whether Manganese (Mn) wash-in kinetics can add new information regarding a myocardial infarct characterization in particular if it can differentiate an acute infarct from a chronic scar. Manganese (Mn) is considered as a specific MRI contrast agent that enters viable cardiomyocytes through calcium pathways. Compared to extracellular Gadolinium based contrast agent...
متن کاملMyocardial extracellular volume estimation by CMR predicts functional recovery following acute myocardial infarction
Background The transmural extent of myocardial infarction (MI) as assessed by late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) CMR predicts functional recovery. In acute MI (AMI), myocardial edema and effects of reperfusion therapy reduce the predictive accuracy of LGE. LGE assesses tissue dichotomously as “viable” or “non-viable”, but does not consider the severity of tissue damage within the hyperenhanced i...
متن کاملCMR Native T1 Mapping Allows Differentiation of Reversible Versus Irreversible Myocardial Damage in ST-segment–Elevation Myocardial Infarction
BACKGROUND CMR T1 mapping is a quantitative imaging technique allowing the assessment of myocardial injury early after ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction. We sought to investigate the ability of acute native T1 mapping to differentiate reversible and irreversible myocardial injury and its predictive value for left ventricular remodeling. METHODS AND RESULTS Sixty ST-segment-elevation ...
